Dear Lithuanian Mathematical Society, dear professor Štikonas,

We would like to ask for your support of the call of Ukrainian mathematicians to suspend the membership of the Russian mathematical societies in the EMS until the end of the war in our country. 

Early in March a group of Ukrainian mathematicians wrote a letter on this topic to the leadership of the EMS. As the EMS denied our call, on March 20 the presidents of the Ukrainian mathematical societies wrote another letter to the Editor of the EMS Magazin. This was about the time when the world learned about atrocities of the Russian army in Kyiv region and the first cases of genocide were evidenced. Thousands more people have died, were wounded and tortured since then in our country. After two months the letter was published by the EMS magazine. 

We hope you will find sufficient arguments in the two above mentioned letters. Please write to the EMS and support our call. We sincerely believe that sanctions against Russia could stop the war and academic organizations shouldn’t be an exemption. Let’s clarify this to the leadership of the EMS.

Dear Executive Board of the EMS,

We are writing on behalf of the Lithuanian mathematicians.

Early in March a group of Ukrainian mathematicians wrote a letter on this topic to the leadership of the EMS. On March 20 the presidents of the Ukrainian mathematical societies wrote another letter to the Editor of the EMS Magazine. Ukrainian mathematicians wrote a separate letter to the Lithuanian Mathematical Society asking to support their initiative to suspend the activities of the Russian Mathematical Societies:
“We would like to ask for your support of the call of Ukrainian mathematicians to suspend the membership of the Russian mathematical societies in the EMS until the end of the war in our country.”

The Council (Board) of the Lithuanian Mathematical Society considered this issue and stated that the Lithuanian Mathematical Society supports the application of the Ukrainian Mathematicians for the suspension of the Russian Mathematical Societies at EMS until the end of the war in Ukraine.

We hope that in the future, after the end of the war, the Russian Mathematical Societies will be able to continue its activities at EMS.

Pranešimo tema: „1935 metų Latvijos BVP įvertinimas pagal NSS 2008“

Tarpukariu nepriklausoma Latvijos Respublika buvo tarp pirmųjų dešimties valstybių, kuriose Nacionalinė Statistikos tarnyba paskelbė dešimties ūkio sektorių oficialius bendrosios gamybos skaičiavimus (1934-1936). Šiame pristatyme 1935 m. Latvijos BVP įvertinimas pagal Nacionalinių sąskaitų 2008 sistemą, apskaičiuojant bendrąją pridėtinę vertę 20 ISIC ūkio sektorių bazinėmis bei rinkos kainomis. Mūsų įverčiai perskaičiuojami į Maddisono Projekto duomenų bazėje naudojamus matavimo vienetus ir įvertiname Latvijos poziciją tarp kitų šalių pagal BVP vienam gyventojui 1935 metais.

Tarptautinis Matematikų Kongresas ICM 2022 (2022 liepos 6-14d.) vyks nuotoliniu būdu, tai sudaro galimybę dalyvauti visiems matematikams.

Dear colleagues,

Due to the war in Ukraine, the IMU was forced to move the ICM to a fully virtual format, see Circular Letter 9/2022.  The schedule of ICM 2022 will follow the CEST time zone, and will, due to the very limited time and resources available, be kept to the bare essentials. Participation at  the virtual ICM will be free of charge to everyone, and only require registration. We are in the process of setting up the platform for the virtual ICM. Talks will either be given live or prerecorded, and the possibility for feedback will unfortunately be limited. Further information will be made available on icm2022.org as and when there are updates.

The IMU has been encouraging grassroots efforts to supplement the core program with additional satellite activities taking place during the virtual ICM, in addition to the traditional satellite conferences taking place either before or after the ICM.  These activities have been coordinated by the ICM Satellite Coordination Group, kindly chaired by A. Borodin, M. Hairer, and T. Tao. This has led to a number of initiatives, a list of which is being maintained at the website

Three different kinds of event are listed:

Overlay satellite events 

These are events allowing ICM speakers (sectional, special, or plenary) to give their talks in front of a live audience and to either upload the recorded lecture to the ICM platform or to stream it live to the platform.

Virtual events

These are additional events taking place online, but outside the IMU’s official ICM platform.

– A Discord server has been set up at https://discord.gg/T72dTkfSzF/  to discuss the ICM lectures as they are bein g given. We encourage all speakers to join this server to interact with the audience in a more direct and extensive way than what

is possible through the official platform.

– The Short Communications Satellite aims to replace the usual short communications program of the ICM. This is an independent effort and is completely independent of the official ICM proceedings. Registration is now open at

Kvantinės grupės apima plačią asociatyvių nekomutatyvių algebrų klasę.
Šios algebros vadinamos „kvantinėmis grupėmis“ nes turi tiek grupinių tiek algebrinių savybių ir gali būti parametrizuojamos tolydžiais parametrais nusakančiais šių algebrinių struktūrų „kvantiškumą“.
Fizikinėse teorijose šie parametrai dažnai sutapatinami su formalia Planko konstanta. Pirmieji tokių algebrų pavyzdžiai buvo atrasti 9-tajame praėjusio amžiaus dešimtmetyje, kvantinių integruojamų sistemų kontekste. Nuo to laiko kvantinių grupių teorija išaugo į atskirą matematikos sritį, kurioje susipina algebra, geometrija ir integruojamos sistemos. Šiame pranešime supažindinsiu su kvantinių grupių teorija ir jų vaidmeniu matematinėje fizikoje bei iššūkiais nagrinėjant ortogonaliąsias ir simplektines kvantines grupes.

2019 m. lapkričio 26 d. 40-oje UNESCO generalinėje konferencijoje kovo 14-oji (Pi diena) buvo paskelbta Tarptautine matematikos diena.  Pi diena jau daugelį metų buvo švenčiama įvairiose šalyse, pažymint pagrindinės matematinės konstantos – skaičiaus π, apibrėžiamo apskritimo ilgio ir diametro santykiu ir apytiksliai lygaus 3,14, – svarbą.

Tarptautinė matematikos diena bus pažymėta ir VU Matematikos ir informatikos fakultete. 2022 m. kovo 14 d.  nuo 11:30 iki 14:00, Naugarduko gatvėje esančiame fakultete ateikite į 105 auditoriją ir sudalyvaukite konkurse

Visų dalyvaujančių lauks staigmena, o laimėtojų – teisė  girtis išskirtiniu titulu visus metus ir ypatingi prizai.

Appeal from Ukrainian mathematicians to EMS

Dear Mr President,
Dear EMS members

The whole world witnessed how on February 24, the President of Russia Putin started a military invasion of Ukraine, which is a blatant act of aggression on a neighbouring democratic country.

The Russian army is shelling residential areas of our cities from Russia, Belarus, and occupied Transdniestrian region, killing civilians and destroying infrastructure. This is an attack not only on Ukraine but on those values and freedoms that we hope all EMS members share with us.

Many European mathematicians have participated in the conferences held in Ukraine. This year, we planned to organize a number of meetings in which our European colleagues planned to participate. Unfortunately, now their organization is impossible, as most of our fellow mathematicians have to defend this country in any possible way, helping the army and civilians. They do what they can.

We also ask you to do everything you can do:

1. Make an open statement about the strict disapproval of the Russian military aggression and a call for peace
2. Suspend all EMS activities and membership in Russia. Many EMS members in Russia do not support the war but they are scared since for any protest or even any mention of the word “war” they are seized by the police. However, at the same time, many of our soldiers sacrifice their lives protecting the country. Russian EMS members must understand that Putin’s military aggression is destroying also Russia’s future
3. Support the appeal to NATO to protect our sky
4. Urge your governments to impose strict sanctions on Russia and suspend all export of high-tech products
5. Please support Ukrainian Army or Ukrainian Red Cross
6. Many Ukrainians in your countries collect medical supplies and things for refugees; please help them in any way you can
7. Contact other members of the EMS, spread the call for support of Ukraine and help us to stop the war!

Дорогие члены Российской Академии Наук, учёные и научные сотрудники Российской Федерации, с большим уважением поддерживаем ваше «Открытое письмо российских учёных и научных журналистов против войны с Украиной» и, зная современный уровень демократии в вашей стране, восхищаемся вашей решительностью.

К сожалению, безрассудная, безумная и ужасная война против Украины продолжается огромными военными силами Российской Федерации. Это вторжение в независимую страну, как и все другие действия Российской Федерации против независимой Украины, уже осудил весь демократический мир. Украинцы невероятно мужественно обороняют свою родину и противостоят многочисленной Российской армии, многие солдаты в которой пока не знают и не осознают, что они делают. Тысячами погибают люди. Погибают защищающие свою страну украинские солдаты, мирные жители Украины. В ужасающе больших количествах гибнут ваши дети.

Вы, академики, учёные и научные сотрудники Российской Федерации, лучше остальных граждан вашей страны понимаете опасность, которая нависла над всем человечеством и, особенно, над вашей страной, в результате агрессивной политики и безрассудства руководителя вашей страны, в руках которого жизни огромного количества людей и угроза ядерной катастрофы.

Мы, нижеподписавшиеся члены Академии Наук Литвы, как и всё академическое сообщество Литвы, просим Вас, пока ещё не поздно, срочно приложить все возможные и невозможные усилия, чтобы остановить происходящее безумие и безрассудность. Масштаб последствий этого безумия во многом зависит от того, что происходит в вашей стране. С надеждой смотрим на вас, образованных и разумных учёных России, на всех разумных людей в России.
